What is the normal rate for webhosting?

I just got charged a total of 3 for a year of webhosting with fatcow. Apparently the rate I had when I first signed up with was a discounted rate which is why I was charged so much this time. That seems a little steep for me to manage a website that is not even making any money. Is this a “normal” price? I’ve had this website for about 2 1/2 years now and it’s never been this expensive.

Chosen Answer:

That’s an average renewal price.
The actual renewal price at FatCow is 7.40/year but you probably have some additional service added and that’s the reason it’s 3, but you could check with them.

Most web hosts offer heavily discounted introductory prices to attract new customers and then renew at their real prices. This price they charged you is pretty standard.

P.S. You could switch to another host like iPage which is very similar to FatCow if it’s not to much hassle and get their discounted price. They have a huge discount right now, one year of hosting for .40 (.95/month) at http://www.webhostingdiscounts.org and you can get the maximum three years of hosting at this price.

It really depends on the hosting company and the services they offer…

check out http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/web-hosting.aspx?ci=8971 they start at $4.24 with a 3 yr contract… 3 month contracts start at $4.99 There are many other hosts out there and their prices vary quite a bit. I am not promoting this company, just using them for a reference.

We are using Bluehost web hosting service and it cost us $59.4 per year. Yes, I think you are overpriced.
